AspenTech and Oregon State University partner to enhance engineering sustainability skills

Aspen Technology, has launched an ambitious three-year collaboration with Oregon State University (OSU). The groundbreaking partnership seeks to embed advanced sustainability software and training into OSU’s curriculum, preparing students to tackle critical net-zero challenges and drive innovation in their future careers.

Steven Qi, Senior Vice President of Customer Support & Training at AspenTech, emphasised the importance of this collaboration:

“Generational workforce changes have made it more important than ever to quickly and effectively prepare new engineers with the skillsets required to successfully enter the workforce and help companies innovate and tackle the challenges associated with net-zero ambitions.”

The partnership will provide OSU students and faculty with access to advanced digital competencies, which are expected to have a direct impact on global sustainability efforts. 

Chih-hung Chang, PhD, Professor and Associate Head of Undergraduate Programmes at OSU’s School of Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering, highlighted the urgency of the energy transition:

“Over the next three years, hundreds of our students and faculty will learn new digital competencies that we expect to have a direct impact on global sustainability efforts. Navigating the energy transition has become an urgent priority, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with AspenTech on empowering the next generation of engineering talent with the skillsets needed to help solve this massive undertaking.”

AspenTech's collaboration with OSU is part of a broader effort to support engineering and sustainability education globally. The company has engaged with numerous international universities, including King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia, to develop technical training and curriculum content based on its solutions. AspenTech software is currently used by over 1,300 universities in more than 80 countries.

The programme has seen participation from approximately 3,700 individuals at customer and partner organisations. This programme aims to close the industry skill gap by enhancing users' expertise in accelerating progress on sustainability pathways through digital technology.
