Avallain acquires TeacherMatic to bolster AI tools for educators
Avallain, an education technology provider, has announced its acquisition of TeacherMatic, a generative AI toolset for educators. This move is part of Avallain's strategy to enhance its offerings with features such as remediation and copyright protection, which are integral to its content creation tool, Avallain Author.
TeacherMatic has developed a suite of AI tools over the past year, enabling the creation of educational materials, including lesson plans and quizzes, that can be customised to fit various curricula.
The acquisition aims to integrate TeacherMatic’s tools with Avallain's existing products, focusing on the ethical use of generative AI in education.
Ursula Suter, Co-Founder and Executive Chairwoman of Avallain, commented on the acquisition, stating, "We see this joining of forces with TeacherMatic as a crucial step to counter the main risks from generative AI while also benefiting educators and education, in general, in a manner that will cater to high-quality educational publishing and learning outcomes."
Peter Kilcoyne, Managing Director at TeacherMatic, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition.
"We are delighted to have been acquired by Avallain whose expertise and experience in terms of both education and technology will greatly enhance our future developments, improve TeacherMatic as a platform as well as engaging with new markets around the world," said Kilcoyne.
Additionally, Avallain announced the appointment of Professor Rose Luckin to its advisory board. Luckin, a Professor at University College London with over 30 years of experience in AI for Education, will provide strategic advice on Avallain's products.
"I am delighted to support them and provide guidance and direction for Avallain’s products as we step forward into this exciting era of AI within education," Luckin stated.
The company also launched the Avallain Lab, led by John Traxler as Academic Director. The Lab's mission includes researching learner analytics, accessibility, and the ethical application of AI to support product development and collaboration with educational partners globally.
The acquisition of TeacherMatic and the establishment of the Avallain Lab are intended to bolster Avallain's product suite, including Avallain Author and the Avallain Magnet Learning Management System, facilitating new tools for editorial workflow automation.
