AWS and Pearson strengthen partnership to scale AI-driven learning solutions

AI

Pearson and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced an expansion of their collaboration, to accelerate AI learning and increasing access to digital education worldwide.

The agreement will see Pearson integrate AWS cloud and AI capabilities, including Amazon Bedrock, into its learning products and services, with a particular focus on higher education.

The initiative follows recent research by Pearson, which found that inefficiencies in career transitions and learning gaps cost the U.S. economy an estimated $1.1 trillion annually.

Scaling AI-driven learning

Under the agreement, AWS will remain Pearson’s strategic AI and cloud provider, supporting the company’s efforts to enhance its education technology infrastructure. Many of Pearson’s higher education products are already built on AWS, and this expansion will allow Pearson to increase its use of cloud infrastructure and AI to improve digital learning experiences across virtual schools, English-language learning programs, and higher education institutions.

By integrating Amazon Bedrock with Pearson’s data sets, the pair will work together to develop AI-powered learning solutions, including automated lesson generation, assessment tools, and real-time feedback for educators and students. They intend to scale personalized learning while maintaining compliance with accreditation standards.

Pearson CEO Omar Abbosh highlighted the role of AI in education, stating:

“As technology transforms the way we learn, improving people’s ability to learn is vital for an adaptive workforce. With the help of AWS, Pearson will be able to get there faster, scale personalized learning, and create more access to AI tools for learners and educators.

This partnership brings together two respected and leading companies in the fields of technology and learning. Together, we can reach many more learners and provide them with the tools they need to succeed and realise the life they imagine for themselves.”

Workforce development and credentialing

AWS and Pearson will also extend their collaboration in workforce development, building on existing initiatives such as GEDWorks, an employer-sponsored program that supports individuals in earning their GED, and Pearson’s digital credentialing platform, Credly.

Pearson VUE, the company’s testing and certification arm, will continue its work with AWS to deliver cloud technology certifications to professionals worldwide. AWS and Amazon will also expand their enterprise learning partnership with Pearson as part of this agreement.

AWS CEO Matt Garman emphasized the collaboration’s potential impact on digital learning:

“We’re excited to expand our long-standing collaboration with Pearson to unlock the power of cloud and AI for learners around the world. Together with Pearson, we will leverage the global scale and AI capabilities of AWS to enable innovative new learning experiences that are personalized and accessible for all.”
