UC Davis CAARE Center uses Blackboard by Anthology to expand trauma training for professionals

The UC Davis Children’s Hospital CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center is partnering with Anthology’s Blackboard learning management system (LMS) to broaden the reach of its Trauma Training Academy programs.

The initiative will provide online access to trauma-informed training resources for professionals across California and beyond, supporting those who work with at-risk youth.

The CAARE Center, recognized for its expertise in evaluating and treating child maltreatment, previously conducted quarterly in-person training sessions. The adoption of Blackboard allows these sessions to be delivered in a web-based format, ensuring more professionals can access the training regardless of location.

The training series, funded by the California Department of Social Services, is available at no cost to California residents. The program targets mental health professionals, social workers, probation officers, substance abuse counselors, and other youth advocates who support children facing exploitation or high-risk behaviors.

Dr. Dawn Blacker, Clinical Director and Training Director of the CAARE Trauma Training Academy, explained the goal of the partnership:

"Our mission is to provide care and training that empower professionals to serve the most vulnerable children and adolescents. Through Blackboard, we will be able to extend our impact far beyond traditional geographic and logistical limitations."

The courses are developed with input from caregivers and survivors and incorporate trauma-informed, harm-reduction strategies. Blackboard’s LMS ensures that professionals, including those not affiliated with UC Davis, can access the courses through a user-friendly platform.

Cole Galyon, Senior Vice President at Anthology, said:

"We are honored to support the UC Davis CAARE Center in delivering such vital training programs to professionals who work tirelessly to support at-risk youth. We take great pride in providing a platform that extends the reach of this critical content, empowering caregivers and advocates to make an even greater impact."
