Cirrus Relaunches Cirrus Approach app with Augmented Reality for advanced flight training

AR

Cirrus, a company specializing in personal aviation and known for its innovative aircraft designs, has announced the relaunch of the Cirrus Approach app.

Designed to support flight training for its SR Series and Vision Jet aircraft, the app offers mobile access to comprehensive training courses, progress tracking, and essential flight instruction tools, optimized for Apple iPad devices.

Augmented Reality integration

A key feature of the updated app is the integration of Augmented Reality, which provides an immersive learning environment for pilots. This technology enables users to master pre-flight procedures and safety checks in a realistic virtual setting, tailored to Cirrus aircraft.

Zean Nielsen, CEO of Cirrus, explained that AR sets a new benchmark in aviation education, stating, “The opportunities are endless with the integration of Augmented Reality and flight training – setting a new benchmark in aviation education.

“AR is set to transform the flight training experience for Cirrus aircraft owners. We now offer pilots an immersive, interactive way to master essential pre-flight procedures and safety checks in a realistic virtual environment. This innovative approach not only improves learning efficiency but also ensures that pilots are thoroughly prepared for real-world flying.”

Training programs

The Cirrus Approach app includes over 50 dynamic training courses covering a wide range of topics, from the foundational Private Pilot Program to specialty and transition training.

Each course is designed with interactive videos, quizzes, and documents to enhance the learning experience.

The app also features the Cirrus Private Pilot Program, which guides students through earning their pilot’s license in an SR Series aircraft. With the support of a Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP) and Cirrus Training Centers, students gain access to immersive ground school content paired with hands-on flight training.

Instructor-focused features

For flight instructors, the app provides tools to streamline the training process, including:

  • Student Management: Features for tracking flight logs, monitoring progress, and tailoring instruction.

  • Mobile Access: The ability to access training materials and prepare for sessions on the go.

  • Interactive Learning: Quizzes and simulations to simplify complex topics for students.

  • Real-Time Feedback: Features to adapt instruction based on students’ needs and performance.

“The Cirrus Approach app is a valuable flight training resource for owners and flight instructors by increasing accessibility to content that keeps pilots current and safe,” Nielsen concluded.
