University of Phoenix’s Hal Morgan named Vice Chair of ACBSP AI Task Team
Hal D. Morgan, Senior Director of Accreditation and Online Education at the University of Phoenix, has been named Vice Chair of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Task Team on AI.
Morgan, who serves on the ACBSP Baccalaureate and Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners, will hold the position for one year.
Morgan has worked at the University of Phoenix for 30 years At the university, he oversees institutional accreditation, business accreditation, healthcare accreditation, and online education quality assurance.
He has served as an ACBSP Evaluator and Mentor, Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Peer Reviewer, and Accreditation Arbitrator for the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). He is currently in his second year on the ACBSP Baccalaureate and Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners.
Task Team objectives
The ACBSP AI Task Team was established to examine how AI is affecting business education and accreditation. It will focus on:
AI’s role in higher education, including its impact on teaching, institutional administration, and accreditation standards.
Guidelines for responsible AI use in academic settings.
Potential risks associated with AI adoption in education.
Morgan emphasized the importance of a structured approach to AI in academic settings:
“It’s an honor to be selected by the Board to serve as Vice Chair of the Task Team on AI. Incorporating AI thoughtfully into higher education and accreditation is crucial for enhancing both institutional effectiveness and student success outcomes.
“I am dedicated to collaborating with my colleagues on the task force to support our accredited business schools and programs in leveraging AI responsibly and fostering environments where technology enhances learning and supports academic excellence.”
AI adoption in Higher Education
A University of Phoenix and Harris Poll survey found that 59% of U.S. adults believe AI should be used in the workplace, while 57% support its use in classrooms. A separate Digital Education Council survey indicated that 61% of faculty currently use AI in their teaching, and 86% expect to incorporate AI in the future.
